Approach
What an operator brings
Bright Station is not an investment fund. It is the private company of a founder who has built technology businesses since 1984, and what it offers other entrepreneurs is what it has itself had to learn. Six contributions recur across the record.

01
Founding and operating experience
Every business on this site was founded, not acquired. Dan has taken companies from a first customer to hundreds of staff and through two Nasdaq listings, one sale to a large American group and one administration. That range of outcomes is the experience Bright Station brings to a founder's board.
MAID, 1984; Venda, 1998; Powa, 2007; Rezolve, 2016.

02
Capital at the beginning
Where Bright Station has invested, it has done so early and with Dan's own money. Powa was funded largely by him for its first six years before institutional investors arrived. Bright Station Ventures backed Buyapowa in 2013 and again in its 2015 Series A.
Powa self-funded to 2013; Buyapowa $4.6m (2013) and Series A (2015), as reported by TechCrunch.

03
Chairing boards
Dan has chaired companies he did not run day to day: Attraqt for thirteen years, including through its admission to AIM; Venda after handing over as chief executive; Buyapowa from its founding. The role is to hold the founder to the plan and to open doors, not to take the wheel.
Attraqt, Feb 2003 – Jun 2016; Venda, 2010 – 2014; Buyapowa, Jan 2011 – Sep 2018.

04
Commercial partnerships
The businesses have grown through partnerships with much larger companies, each negotiated by the founder directly: MAID with Microsoft and IBM in 1995 and 1996, Dialog with Fujitsu in Japan in 1999, Powa with China UnionPay in 2015, Rezolve Ai with Microsoft, Google Cloud and Tata Consultancy Services since 2024. Knowing how to be a small company's voice in a large company's room is a transferable skill.
Announcements dated 9 Aug 1995, 30 Apr 1996, 9 Jun 1999, Aug 2015, 3 Oct 2024, 20 Nov 2024, 12 May 2026.

05
International reach and public markets
Each business was built in Britain and sold abroad. MAID listed in London in 1994 and on Nasdaq in 1995 and bought an American business several times its size. Venda operated from London, New York and Bangkok. Rezolve Ai listed on Nasdaq in 2024. The practical knowledge of listing, reporting and raising capital in two markets is offered to the founders Bright Station works with.
LSE 15 Mar 1994; Nasdaq 1 Dec 1995; AIM 19 Aug 2014 (Attraqt); Nasdaq 16 Aug 2024.

06
Advocacy for British technology
Dan has argued publicly for British technology companies since his weekly Sunday Express column in 2001, and has lent his name to government programmes for technology exporters and to university entrepreneurship. The Enterprise & Impact page lists only what can be documented.
Sunday Express, Feb – Jun 2001; UK Trade & Investment e-Exporting Programme, Sep 2014; Henley Business School, 2021 – 2022.
Working principles
How the relationship works in practice
Founder-led
Bright Station backs founders who run their own companies. Where Dan has been chairman, the chief executive has been someone else.
Long horizons
The involvements on this site have lasted years, not quarters: thirteen at Attraqt, seven at Buyapowa, sixteen from Venda's founding to its sale.
Plain accounting of outcomes
Two listings, two sales, one administration. Each is described on its own page in the same measured terms.
What Bright Station is not
Bright Station Limited is a private company owned by its founder. It does not operate a fund, does not manage money for others and does not invite business plans. If you have a reason to be in touch, the contact page explains how.
